Hydropower was harnessed by our ancestors two thousand years ago. Today, it is mainly used to generate electricity. Hydroelectricity accounts for about 20% of the world’s electricity production. Hydroelectricity is one of the safest and most acceptable forms of energy for the environment in which we live.
Hydromechanical equipment is part of the hydropower system for generating electricity. A water turbine acts as a driving machine in a hydroelectric power plant, converting the potential energy of water into mechanical energy, which is in turn converted into electricity by an electrical generator. The turbine and generator form a “turbo generator”. In theory and practice, there are three types of turbine, the Kaplan, the Pelton and the Francis turbine.
